Dr. Vanessa is a PhD trained cell biology Editor with over ten years of research experience in a range of fields including neuroscience, signal transduction, and oncology. She received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Southern California, as well as a Minor in English Literature and Creative Writing. She received her PhD in Molecular Cell Biology from Washington University in St. Louis. Her graduate work focused upon cellular signaling mediated by heterotrimeric G-proteins. She has also done postdoctoral research at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute/University of Michigan Medical School and at the Van Andel Research Institute in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her most recent area of research interest has been in cancer cell biology. Dr. Vanessa has worked as a staff science writer/editor at a cancer research institute, and has also worked as a freelance writer and editor for both academic and industry clients. She has developed training materials for pharmaceutical companies, assisted in the development and writing of NIH grant proposals, and assisted in the writing and editing of numerous scientific manuscripts. She has extensive experience working with English-as-a-second-language (ESL) authors. As a published scientist, Dr. Vanessa understands the process of putting a manuscript together for publication, and enjoys helping other scientists polish their own manuscripts. She welcomes the chance to edit papers and grant proposals in molecular and cellular biology, and has special expertise in the fields of signal transduction and oncology.
