Dr. Chang earned her BA in history and philosophy from Pomona College in 2004 and her MA and Ph.D. in history from UCLA in 2012. Her dissertation, “Marshaling Culture: Strategies of Japanese Mobilization in Taiwan” won the 2012 Best Dissertation Prize from the Department of History at UCLA. Dr. Chang was born in Taiwan, spent some formative years in New Zealand, and received all her secondary education in English while maintaining a strong interest in Chinese literature and culture. Taking advantage of her full bilingualism, she has taught both Chinese and English in a classroom setting and is deeply familiar with the structures of both languages. While cultivating strong reading, writing, and research skills in graduate school in English, she worked part-time as a freelance translator in 2005, starting in the more familiar areas of humanities and social sciences. Her writing style is clear and concise, and she quickly won clients for Chinese to English academic, legal, and financial translations. She is currently a member of the American Translators Association and has received Taiwanese certification as a Chinese to English translator. Dr. Chang serves as a medical as well has humanities translator for ScienceDocs from Chinese to English.
