Dr. William is a seasoned clinical writer with ScienceDocs. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin Medical School and internship and residency training at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He then received clinical and research training in immunology and gastroenterology at the University of California, San Francisco; the University of Singapore; and the University of Colorado. He has served as head of the Gastroenterology Division of the University of Colorado School of Medicine and the chief of gastroenterology of the School of Medicine-affiliated Denver Health Medical Center, and the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Denver.
Prior to becoming a full-time clinical writer, Dr. William’s major scientific interest had been the immunology of the gastrointestinal tract. In that field, he has had research and career development funding from the Department of Veterans Affairs, the National Institutes of Health, and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and reviews in basic research and clinical publications. In addition, he has been an editor, editorial board member, and reviewer for several major medical publications. His major contributions in the field of gastrointestinal immunology have been in the biological functions and the molecular mechanism of translocation of immunoglobulin A into gastrointestinal tract and biliary fluids.
Dr. William has been laboratory research mentor for some 30 trainees and clinical mentor for about 80 trainees. Several of these persons have achieved prominent academic positions in leading U.S. and foreign medical centers. He was Principal Investigator of the NIH Training Grant in Gastroenterology, University of Colorado School of Medicine, from 1988-1996.
In January, 2013, Dr. William retired from full-time academic medicine and launched into medical editing and writing. Since retirement he has also worked as an informaticist with Motive Medical Intelligence, Francisco CA, 2013-2014, and he has been an Associate Medical Director of the Center for Personalized Education for Physicians, Denver CO, since 2014.
