Dr. Jerry - Senior Optimization Engineer
Dr. Jerry is a senior optimization engineer specializing in applying advanced analytics, simulation, and optimization techniques to solve complex operational problems across logistics, manufacturing, supply chains, transportation systems, and workforce planning. With deep experience in both industry and government environments, Dr. Jerry brings a pragmatic, results-driven approach to optimization engineering that bridges rigorous mathematical modeling with real-world decision-making.
As an optimization engineer, Dr. Jerry focuses on formulating and solving complex, often ill-defined business problems where uncertainty, scale, and operational constraints are central challenges. His work includes large-scale routing and scheduling optimization, supply chain risk and resilience modeling, discrete-event simulation of manufacturing and logistics systems, and scenario-based analysis to support both strategic and operational planning. His solutions are designed to be transparent, defensible, and actionable—enabling decision-makers to confidently act on sophisticated analytical results.
In addition to his role with ScienceDocs, Dr. Jerry previously founded his own analytics company where he has delivered high-impact optimization solutions to public- and private-sector clients since 2019. His consulting work includes developing optimization models for production and transportation planning for a multinational manufacturer, a project the client valued at approximately $50 million. Variants of this work were later used to reduce supply-chain disruption risk during the COVID-19 pandemic. He has also designed large-scale routing models for public-sector clients, delivering measurable reductions in cost and travel time.
Dr. Jerry brings nearly two decades of prior experience from UPS, where he served as a Senior Operations Research Analyst developing enterprise-scale decision-support tools for logistics, routing, scheduling, and workforce planning. His work consistently translated advanced optimization methods—such as linear and mixed-integer programming, graph theory, and combinatorial optimization—into tools usable by non-technical stakeholders. Earlier in his career, he also served as an Operations Research Analyst for Ford Motor Company.
In addition to his industry experience, Dr. Jerry is a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel, having served as an Operations Research Officer supporting joint and combatant commands worldwide. He led analytic teams, delivered decision-critical analyses to senior leaders, and taught operations research at the Naval Postgraduate School. Dr. Jerry holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research and brings a disciplined, mission-focused perspective to optimization engineering.
