Dr. Kelly - Seasoned Optimization Scientist with over 25 years of experience
Dr. Kelly is an accomplished optimization scientist with twenty-five years of experience developing and implementing advanced algorithms for complex optimization problems. She has proven expertise in mixed-integer programming, constraint programming, and large-scale system optimization across numerous technology sectors including workforce scheduling, sports scheduling, logistics, vehicle routing, and financial optimization.
Dr. Kelly holds dual bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Philosophy from Johns Hopkins University, a Masters in Operations Research from Stanford University, and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. Her programming skills include Python, C/C++, Visual Basic, and multiple optimization solvers including Gurobi, CPLEX, and Xpress. Additionally, she has obtained a certification as a Google Data Analytics Professional which showcases her skills with SQL, Tableau, and PowerBI.
Throughout her career, Dr. Kelly has worked both in academia as an adjunct instructor of Operations Research and as an Optimization Scientist at several high-profile companies in the financial and scheduling industries. She plans to tap into her teaching background to create free mini-courses covering Operations Research topics for the site so check back often to see the latest posts!
Dr. Kelly’s research interests include hybrid optimization techniques utilizing mixed-integer programming and constraint programming; branch-and-price, deep-diving, and simulated annealing heuristics; parallel computing; and artificial intelligence fueled data analytics. She has published articles in a number of well-known journals as well as written two secondary school textbooks, one covering Geometry and one covering Discrete Mathematics.
