Dr. Marcy is an expert Academic as well as SBIR grant reviewer, writer and editor. With over 25 years of drug discovery experience at both large and small pharmaceutical companies, she combines a scientific perspective with an appreciation for the practicalities of operating in an entrepreneurial environment. She received her PhD in Biochemical, Cellular and Molecular Biology from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and worked as a post-doctoral researcher at Harvard Medical School studying basic virology. She has performed pharmaceutical research in the area of preclinical drug discovery including assay development, chemical library screening, chemical lead characterization/selection, proof-of-concept experiments and animal disease models. This work included extensive experience with the oversight and management of contract research organizations and academic/government/nonprofit institutional collaborations. Complementing her research work, Dr. Marcy also gained corporate licensing and business development experience through the sourcing and scientific evaluation of new therapies for antivirals, antifungals and antibiotics.

 

As the Scientific Operations Officer for a small start-up company she helped prepare patent applications, investor updates and grant proposals, and was the co-PI for an SBIR award.  She has over 40 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and issued patents, and has participated in national conferences through posters, lectures and speaker panels. Dr. Marcy has been a member of an NIH SBIR scientific study section since 2013, and has reviewed numerous grant applications for devices, small molecule ligands and biological therapies in the endocrinology area. Her therapeutic area expertise includes endocrinology, metabolic disease, dermatology, and infectious disease. She welcomes opportunities to assist small companies with obtaining critical grant support for novel therapeutic development programs.
