engineering sbir writerDr. L. Claire — Academic and SBIR Grant Writer and Editor: PhD in Engineering

Dr. Claire is an Engineering SBIR grant writer as well as Academic grant specialist with over 25 years of experience writing and editing award-winning proposals and research publications in science and engineering fields. Dr. Claire received her S.B. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT and her M.S. and Ph.D. from Stanford University. She conducted her doctoral dissertation work in experimental aerodynamics. As a professional working in engineering research, she worked in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and integrated information technologies into data analysis processes for aerodynamic and atmospheric flows. In addition to physical sciences and engineering, she gained experience with relational databases, rule-based reasoning systems, and machine learning technologies such as neural networks and genetic algorithms. In her subsequent years as a researcher, Dr. Claire became interested in geospatial data and created software that works within a geographic information system (GIS) to discover association rules in spatial data. Her research work was primarily federally funded by NASA and the U.S. Department of Defense through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program.

As a engineering SBIR grant writer and editor, Dr. Claire couples her passion for scientific and engineering innovation with strong proposal writing skills. Her intellectual interests expand beyond her own area of expertise and encompass the broad array of research projects engaged in by her clients. In her work, she strives to draw out what is innovative and unique in each proposal. Dr. Claire has worked on award-winning proposals on federal, state, and private projects and has helped her clients win funding ranging from $50,000 to $11 million from NSF, NIH, NASA, and the U.S. Departments of Energy, Agriculture, Defense, Transportation, Education (S-STEM+), and Health and Human Services. She has special expertise in NSF grant writing, and she has worked on 25 awarded NSF proposals for her clients, totaling over $13 million.

Dr. Claire is available for grant writing, editing, reviewing, and coaching. As a writer working with subject matter experts, she can develop the proposal as an iterative process, soliciting feedback as the narrative takes shape. Her editing and review work will ensure that the application is well organized, complies with instructions, and presents the strongest argument possible for funding. Dr. Claire can coach early-career researchers in grant writing and help them develop their ideas through an iterative process of review, critique, and editing. She is also available for editing journal articles, conference papers, white papers, and technical reports.
