Dr. Lesley holds a PhD in Genetics and Molecular Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Master of Sciences degree in Animal Sciences from North Carolina State University and a Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Studies from the University of Virginia. Dr. Lesley works in a horticultural research laboratory where research concentrates on improving citrus and specialty crops for the state of Florida. Current research involves identifying genetic targets for combating Huanglongbing/Citrus greening in citrus, the bacterial pathogen, and the insect vectors. Work includes transgenic construction and molecular screening. Dr. Lesley has a diversified science background. Previous work includes research on antimicrobial peptides at Howard Hughes Medical Institute, two-hybrid screening in Coprinus cinereus and the study of epigenetic modifications. As a Zoological and Plant Biology Editor, Dr. Lesley has worked with scientists from Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, China and was a post-doctoral associate at Okayama University in Japan.
