Dr. Lawson – Mechanical Engineering Grant Writer, Specializing in Academic Grants
Mechanical Engineering Grant Writer Dr. Lawson holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering. His research background is in nanotechnology, biomedical engineering, biomechanics, orthopedics, and translational research. Dr. Lawson has published manuscripts in numerous peer-reviewed journals (such as Journal of Orthopaedic Research and Nature Communications). Between his academic and professional career, he has over 6 years’ experience in grant, fellowship, and manuscript writing. His grant writing career began during his undergraduate where he successfully secured funding for his research related to microfluidics. Dr. Lawson has since worked on grants and fellowships for the NSF, NIH, and DOD, efforts which have raised thousands in grant funding. His grant writing efforts have focused on mechanical engineering, specifically involving biomechanics and translational research related to orthopedics, clinical imaging (MRI, CT), polymer chemistry, and nanomaterials. In addition to grant and manuscript writing, Dr. Lawson is well versed in regulatory documents for the Institutional Animal Use and Care Committee (IACUC) and Institutional Review Board (IRB).
Dr. Lawson’s research has focused both on the early-stage diagnosis and treatment of osteoarthritis. In particular, his dissertation focused on using nanoparticles and computed tomography for quantitative diagnosis of osteoarthritis, in conjunction with the use of nanomaterials as lubricants for poroelastic materials such as cartilage. Prior to graduate school, Dr. Lawson was involved in biomedical engineering research related to hemodynamics and heart development where he developed novel techniques for quantifying the curvature of the heart during the developmental process.
