Dr. Rayburn, Pharmacology Editor and Grant Writer, has a Ph.D. in Pharmacology/Toxicology, and performed research focused on Oncology, Pharmacology, Toxicology, Molecular Biology, Natural Products and Experimental Therapeutics. Dr. Rayburn discovered her affinity for medical writing/editing as a second-year graduate student when she was working in a laboratory where she was one of only two native English-speakers. Dr. Rayburn was the first-author of a co-author of 40 research papers, reviews, and book chapters during her time as a graduate student and post-doctoral fellow. In addition, Dr. Rayburn both helped her mentor and others in the lab write grants and wrote her own grants, which were submitted to the DoD*, NIH*, Sandler Program for Asthma Research, Susan G. Komen Foundation,* and Prostate Cancer Foundation. She therefore has extensive experience preparing scientific manuscripts and reviews for journals, book chapters, and grants for various target agencies. (*at least one proposal was funded in this category)
After the birth of her son, Dr. Rayburn decided to focus full-time on medical writing and editing. She worked for a Japan-based company for more than four years, and edited thousands of manuscripts, slide sets, speeches, and reports, broadening her knowledge base in fields ranging from Dentistry to Virology.
Of note, Dr. Rayburn has extensive experience working with those for whom English is a second language (ESL), having more than 10 years of experience with substantive editing of documents from diverse fields of research.
