SBIR Grant Consultant Mr. Keohan earned his MS in chemistry, where his training focused on synthetic and applied polymer science. Upon graduation, he accepted a chemistry research position at the Global Research and Development Center of General Electric Co. He concurrently earned his MBA with a concentration in technology and entrepreneurship. After graduating from business school, has worked as a materials science researcher, treasurer, technology manager, grant writer, and technical marketing manager.
Between 1987 and 1999 he was awarded 24 SBIR Phase I and 7 Phase II research contracts and grants totaling over $4.7M while serving as treasurer at contract R&D research company. Between 2000 and 2007 he was awarded 20 SBIR Phase I and 5 Phase II Research Programs, totaling over $5.5M while serving as Vice President at that company. Funding agencies for these programs included five branches of the DoD, NASA, NIH, DOA, and NSF. Technologies developed under these programs included: novel marine antifouling paint, high performance adhesives, advanced composite matrix polymers, toughened biomedical composites, waterborne adhesive primers, brain electrode coatings, and elastomeric neural prosthesis electrodes. He has published 10 technical articles (most as first author) and holds three US patents.
As both a seasoned business as well as SBIR Grant Consultant, Mr. Keohan can draw on a multi-disciplinary technical background to assist ScienceDocs clients in conveying technical ideas in a clear and convincing manner to their target audience. His background is particularly strong in applied polymer science, surface science, corrosion control, conductive polymers, biomedical devices, electronic sensors, 3D printing, textile chemistry, and adhesion science and fiber reinforced plastics.
Mr. Keohan also has extensive experience in business writing including the creation of pro forma financial statements. He has written commercialization plans for numerous SBIR programs as well as full business plans for soliciting private sector investment. His work as a technical marketing manager and technology manager included the design and creation of sales promotion materials, product branding literature and website content. He produced and delivered numerous sales and technical presentations for clients and at professional conferences.
