SBIR Grant Writer Dr. Browning is an innovator, entrepreneur and scientist with a proven ability to obtain funding for academic and industry research and commercialization projects. Using his unique combination of academic, start-up and industry experience, he has helped small and large companies develop business and technology innovation strategies that lead to successful grant, foundation and investor funding. His areas of expertise include wearable technology, human mobility and performance, assistive devices, physical activity assessment and musculoskeletal modeling/simulation. Dr. Browning is an experienced academic and SBIR grant writer and can assist with:

Experience: Dr. Browning is a co-founder of a start-up company that is commercializing powered exoskeletons for children and adults with movement disorders. Through his professional career, he has been actively involved in several start-up companies in physical activity assessment, weight management and rehabilitative technologies. As a result, he has authored successful NIH phase I and II SBIR proposals. He has also served as a reviewer for academic and small business/non-profit grants and understands the reviewer’s perspective. Dr. Browning was recently the senior director of footwear research in the Nike Sport Research Lab, where he managed a portfolio of ~$2M/yr in external research projects that drove product innovation. This gave him experience in creating, managing and licensing intellectual property developed internally and through external partners. Prior to working at Nike, Dr. Browning was an Associate Professor and director of the Physical Activity Laboratory in the Health and Exercise Science department at Colorado State University. While at CSU, his NIH, NSF and industry sponsored research combined biomechanics, physiology and engineering approaches to develop physical activity interventions for the treatment of chronic health conditions. His research has been published in high-impact, peer reviewed journals including the Journal of Applied Physiology and has been cited over 2500 times. Dr. Browning received his Ph.D. in Integrative Physiology from the University of Colorado, M.S. in Kinesiology from UCLA and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from CSU.
