Scientific Writer Dr. Bonin developed his affinity for science writing and communications while working as a scientist in the biotechnology industry for over 10 years. His scientific acumen, project management skills, and writing helped overcome intense regulatory hurdles for multiple successful product launches in multinational and start-up companies in the agricultural biotech sector. He also received deep experience in pharmaceutical product development and support as a medical/scientific writer at a medical communications agency, a major pharmaceutical company, and a non-profit research organization. His experience in academic grant writing began with successfully landing his own fellowship as a post-doc focused on gene regulation and development in fruit flies and now spans most major areas of science, including computational biology, immunology, neuroscience, biomedical engineering, psychiatry, and community health.
Dr. Bonin has a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of Connecticut and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Rhode Island. His thesis work at UConn focused on the genetics and biochemistry of plant cell wall synthesis and as a postdoctoral fellow at Columbia University he investigated developmental gene regulation in animal systems. As a researcher and team lead in biotech, he supported pre-commercial projects on plant amino acid metabolism, drought tolerance, and enzyme delivery for animal nutrition, and in pharma, he supported therapeutic products for multiple sclerosis, stroke, hemophilia, and cancer.
