Dr. Dean is a toxicologist with a background in public health. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Studies from Emory University, a Master’s degree in Public Health Practice from the University of South Florida, and a PhD in toxicology from the University of Georgia. Her field of research was metals toxicity in aquatic invertebrates; her manuscripts have been published in Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology and in the Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health, Part B. Prior to earning her PhD, Dr. Dean worked at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta for eight years. She is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC), and the American Chemical Society (ACS). She has edited extensively in the fields of toxicology, public health, environmental health science, pharmacology, and nano-medicine. In 2017, Dr. Dean earned her certification as an Editor in the Life Sciences (ELS).
