U.S. Army Medical Research & Development Command (USAMRDC) – Broad Agency Announcement

The U.S. Army Medical Research & Development Command (USAMRDC) Broad Agency Announcement supports foundational and applied biomedical research that enhances force readiness, survivability, medical capability, and long-term warfighter health. USAMRDC manages a diverse research enterprise spanning combat casualty care, operational medicine, infectious disease prevention and treatment, clinical and rehabilitative medicine, and advanced medical simulation technologies. Unlike the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP)—which focus on highly targeted disease areas—USAMRDC’s BAA addresses cross-cutting military medical needs that are essential to Army and joint-force medical preparedness.

USAMRDC seeks innovations that improve trauma stabilization, hemorrhage control, wound management, neuroprotection, psychological health, environmental exposure mitigation, multisystem injury care, and rapid medical decision support. Applied research may involve predictive diagnostics, point-of-care detection, lightweight medical devices, remote physiologic monitoring, telemedicine, advanced biomaterials, regenerative approaches, automated triage systems, digital therapeutics, force health surveillance tools, and immersive operational training environments. Foundational science is also encouraged, including studies that deepen understanding of multi-organ trauma responses, infection progression, biomarker discovery, and human performance under operational stress.

USAMRDC BAAs invite early-stage concepts, prototype demonstrations, and clinically aligned applied research capable of maturing into field-deployable solutions. Many solicitations emphasize transition pathways into advanced development, test and evaluation, or eventual acquisition programs for military medical systems. Proposals demonstrating operational relevance, rapid deployability, and clear benefit to military medicine are highly competitive.

Eligibility is wide-ranging, enabling participation by universities, nonprofit medical research institutions, federally funded R&D centers, biotechnology startups, engineering firms, and large for-profit corporations. Early-stage companies are particularly competitive when developing dual-use regenerative medicine tools, medical diagnostics, or advanced telehealth systems. Foreign participation may be limited due to mission sensitivity, but domestic entities face no special restrictions. Proposals typically proceed through a white paper or abstract phase, followed by an invited full proposal if the concept aligns with medical capability gaps and Army operational needs.
